The Aaronic Blessing

THE AARONIC BLESSING

Below is a popular song adapation of the famous Priestly Blessing (the Aaronic Blessing), the most famous text from the book of Numbers:
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace" (6:24-26).

Hebrew scholars attribute this three-fold blessing to the three Patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob). Others  see significance in the progression of the blessing, from the most to the least worthy (from whom God has therefore turned his face).
In this reading, the most worthy receive God's full blessing; the sinful are promised forgiveness (grace); while those who have completely forsaken God's ways are given the hope that God will turn to them and bring peace (shalom; wholeness) to their troubled lives.
The prayer is recited daily among many Jews.
There are many recordings of this on youtube. The version below is by Country singer, Jim Reeves. Lyrics follow the video icon.

May the good Lord bless and keep you, whether near or far away. May you find that long awaited golden day today. May your troubles all be small ones and your fortune ten times ten. May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again.
May you walk with sunlight shining and the bluebird in every tree, may there be a silver lining back of every cloud you see. Fill your dreams with sweet tomorrows, never mind what might have been. May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again. (May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again.)
